Meet the maker....
My name is Paula and I am the person behind p&d designs.
Having been creative since a very early age, encouraged and taught by my mother to sew, bake, create etc. and always favouring the art room over any other at school it was no surprise that I chose an artistic path and obtained a Constructed Textiles degree in 2000. Following my degree, I worked for a number of luxury clothing and textile brands in London until relocating to South Wales in 2006, where my career took a completely different path away from the creative industry.
There had always been an underlying desire to revisit my creative ambitions and bring this passion to the forefront and so in June 2014, following on from some thoughtful personalised p&d Christmas stocking gifts and with the support of my family, I began designing and making bespoke jewellery and accessories from the vast array of treasures I have gathered and hoarded for so many years.
My jewellery is predominantly textile based with a strong focus on texture, form, structure and colour. My designs incorporate preloved fabrics and trims, upcycling old t-shirts into yarns and repurposing metal hardware to create unique, contemporary pieces. Ethically sourced sari silks and natural twines give my work a contemporary, bohemian style.
Since `outgrowing’ the dining room at the start of last year I’ve been lucky enough to have studio space created for me by my husband in our converted loft in our family home in Barry. Filled with natural light, it’s a space I now love, although it still needs some further organisation! I spend my days juggling `making’ time around being a busy mum to two small boys which can be quite a challenge!
